MAR.16.16: Garage Door Studio Step-by-Step Photo Encaustic Evening with Penny Treese

Ashley-mom-painting1-lrDo you have a favorite photo of your grandparent, parent, child or even a pet that deserves to be featured as a fine art painting?

In this session, bring a print-out of a treasured photo and learn to enhance it with wax, pigment, pastels or add heavy texture and embed personal elements like lace, jewelry, handwritten notes…wherever your photo needs to come alive.

See instructions for printing size and paper (inexpensive ink jet). Feel free to bring a print of an Internet image-it doesn’t have to be shot by you. Even magazine photos will do! Penny will also have photos from which to choose and use.

PHOTO-ENCAUSTIC SUPPLY/PHOTO LIST:
Please print your photos on inexpensive, ink jet paper, NOT GLOSSY PHOTO PAPER.
The wax absorbs into the porous ink jet paper much better than glossy, or laser paper.

Bring prints of your photos at letter size 8.5×11” or smaller.

FEB.20.16: Artblend Winter Art Exhibit 2016 Fort Lauderdale Florida

FEB.20.16: Artblend Winter Art Exhibit 2016 Fort Lauderdale Florida

Artblend owners Elaine and Michael Joseph would like to take this opportunity to personally invite you to our annual WINTER ART EXHIBIT.  Come join us and Meet the Artists on Saturday, February 20th from 6-8pm.  The evening promises to dazzle as we present a large collection of the newest artworks by our member artists. Dress code is evening casual-cocktail. There is plenty of free parking available and parking meters in front of gallery. Click here to view Penny Treese gallery.

“Hues you might find in an angel’s halo – magical, bright and hopeful.”

Themes of stillness, presence and reflection are revealed throughout Penny Treese’s paintings. The interplay of molten unbleached beeswax and vivid pigment beget images of land and sea, sea and sky. Using an iron to apply heat and delicate pressure, Treese transforms wax into warm waves of color flowing across wood or paper. Golds fade, blues burst, pinks evoke. Treese’s intentional “spot welds” are smudges of memory, inklings of dreams, revealing dapples, dimples and wrinkles that birth a sun, moon, cloud or ethereal dragons and angels. Even as Treese envisions the rich soil and pastures of her Midwestern roots, by meticulously manipulating wax and paint, the land becomes fluid – echoing life’s constant ebbs and flows. And yet, like the underlying layers of wax and pigment in each painting, there is a foundational hope. A hope expressed in the truth that circumstances cannot touch true peace, that indeed “grace is sufficient.”—Penny Treese

“I was so inspired by the beauty all around, all your gorgeous work, the perfect relaxed setting and your family’s hospitality.  It was a truly fulfilling weekend.  The photo-shoot was a lot of fun, Judy taught me things I’ve been wondering about for years.  It was great to have time to practice and then go over what worked and what didn’t.  I just found that the whole weekend went by in a flash…!! ~~~Tracey
