Encaustic and The Figure- New Techniques in Wax
with Kim Ford and Penny Treese
Day One- The drawing session. Kim will lead you in sketching from the live model with the proper drawing tools, papers and techniques appropriate to this unique practice. A final critique narrows down the best choices of drawings to be enhanced with wax in Penny’s session.
Day Two- Encaustic painting session. Spend day two with Penny demonstrating methods of saturating drawings with natural beeswax, embedding, enhancing with pigment, texture building/escavating, applying washes, transferring and more. Artists may use original charcoal sketches or copies to apply these methods. Sketches may be masterfully drawn or blindly contoured, tightly cropped, randomly torn or intentionally burned, then transformed into finished encaustic paintings.
