For the last seven years, art from all over the Atlanta area has been brought into Gallery Walk at Terminus for display within the art cases. Over the course of those years, we have received many inquires from artists working within the Terminus community about exhibiting their work. After a couple of recent inquiries, it became clear that an exhibition of Terminus artists and/or their family members was a real possibility. With assistance from the Property Management team, a “Call for Artists” was released and 16 artists expressed interest in exhibiting their work. Many talented painters, photographers, and even glass artists are hidden throughout the Terminus community and we are thrilled to present their work to you in this Micro-Local exhibition.

January 16, 2015 @ 10:00 am – 4:00 pm

1 Day Encaustic Workshop!

Although encaustic wax painting has existed for centuries, dating as far back as 800 BC, the art of fusing pigmented wax with heat has made a resurgence.  The process begins with the very basics, which involves combining beeswax with oil paint or dry pigments.  In this encaustic introductory course, we will go over the finer points of encaustic techniques and how to use tools like heat guns, torches and irons to fuse the wax until your vision comes to full fruition.  The sky is the limit – one can complete a somewhat impressionist, abstract or realistic work once you learn the fundamentals of encaustic wax painting.  Techniques include layering, sculpting, embedding objects and images and more.

No experience required.

POP-UP 1 Day Encaustic Wax Workshop – Basic to Unique Techniques Painting With Encaustic Wax

ONE-DAY POP-UP ENCAUSTIC WORKSHOP IN DECATUR: BASIC TO UNIQUE TECHNIQUES

January 25, 2015 @ 12:30 pm – 4:30 pm

The primary attribute of encaustic wax painting is its amazing textures. Applying heat, shaping the wax and adding pigment allows the artist to create intriguing dips, valleys and curves that onlookers will love to navigate. Encaustic painting textures are extremely varied and depend on what you want to communicate with your piece. Will it be raised and rough-smooth and glassy? Traditional and monochromatic or jazzy, whimsical and contemporary? The kind of effect you achieve painting with wax will depend greatly on how you “mold” the piece. An expert eye is sorely needed, especially since you can reach a “point of no return” with encaustic work. Penny will help you build upon your wax painting’s unique narrative with textures that complement its voice.
